Finding Your Way: Cue Purchase Decisions

The billiard cue stick a player chooses can have a huge and varied impact on their play style. There are a universe of various options to choose to play with. Many varieties cue styles and products probably will not greatly effect play — but there may be some that fundamentally affect the physics involved in the playing of the game. For example, a graphite shaft versus a wooden one. These are extremely different materials. They can’t both be the correct choice, so which one is the very best? This, of course, depends on who you ask.
A wonderful place to get a diverse array of opinions on which cues to use or avoid altogether would be the many various pocket billiard discussion groups that exist on the world wide web. I would, however, avoid seeking only the advice of what pro players use: often professional players are endorsed to play with a given cue brand and may or may not have it highly customized to suit their idiosyncratic preferences.
There’s also many popular billiard and pocket billiard expos (such as the BCA trade show) that can allow you to see some of the billiard cues right off the manufacturers shelf, and most often they will even have a pool table with a rack of pool balls to let you try the pool cue out.
Whenever you change pool cue sticks there is a period of muscle conditioning adjustment that, assuming frequent play, may take a couple up to a month of regular play to reach. It may be difficult to make an accurate decision on a cue in an individual game of pool, which is problematic if you intend to make a buying decision right then and there.
There are many popular cue and shaft brands to choose from. One excellent example is Predator cues. Predator has manufactured many popular series that are popular not just in the United States, but around the entire world. Even their name seems to imply aggression, a good fight, and ideally… a successful win! Their emblem is the yellow panther which can be seen on on their pool cues.

Learning the Value of A Cue Stick

Billiard cues come at a relatively wide variety of price points. For the most part a cue within the price range of $20 even up to $130 will come at approximately the same level of craftsmanship. These are known as the economy cues. These billiard cue sticks were created overseas (most often). Upwards of that price range you get into the next tier of cues. Often, these cues are made in the U.S. and have been manufactured with a greater amount of skilled craftsmanship. Of course, much of this premium is likely little more than perception as well, though, as a rule, you will get a superior product for having spent a bit more.
As an amateur pocket billiard player, the ideal price I would try to stay within when buying a billiard cue stick if I were intent on playing at least twice a couple of months would most likely be around the $200-300 price. Beyond that price range, I believe, more often than not you are actually investing in the elaborate inlays. As you climb that price point ladder you’ll find pool cues with more points, and more elaborate inlays and scrimshaw that are harder to produce, as well as more exotic woods such as cocobolo.
Notably, there are multiple styles of billiards as well, and this will probably play a role in your choice of pool cue stick style. The sport of pocket billiards is the most common form of billiards found in U.S. or Canada, for example. Snooker, for example, which is played on a pocketed billiard table as well is, in fact, still actually considered to be a unique cue sport from pocket billiards. Snooker cues may be a little bit customized for the uniqueness of their sport as well. Carom is an different pocket-less game of billiards, which I won’t get into here.
Many pro players billiards are paid to specifically play with/endorse certain cue brands. Some of the most important advice a new player in the sport could be given would be to make it a priority to find a gaming league to play with regularly where more qualified opinions on the performance of various products relevant to the game can be heard.
Many billiard discussion areas also happen to exist on the internet. In these forums people discuss the game rules, style tips, game related product reviews and feedback (where to buy), and local and international events somehow relevant to the sport of pocket billiards.

Unbeknownst to many amateur pool players basic issues with body physiology can substantially interfere with their level of game. This is especially true of their stroke when making contact with a pool ball. In order to have success at at increasing your skill level in the game of billiards you must work out any substantial physiological problems to better your game.
One common physiological issue is lower back problems. If you discover that the mild bending over required by the game puts you in any kind of pain you may need to consider visiting some sort of back specialist like a chiropractor, or another type of doctor that is professionally and appropriately diagnose disk or other various back issues. If you have already done so, and the issue persists in messing up your game of billiards… do not despair!
There are a just a few general tips for pool and billiard players that may, in fact, greatly improve their ability to handle the weight of their pool stick or stance, as well as the variety of angles that taking a pool shot can put one’s body into. One very simple thing that most ordinary men and women can do is simply get into the local fitness center on a regular basis. Workouts that stretch and work the muscles of the back can truly be of real aid.
A few examples of popularback exercises include: lat pull downs, pull ups, and even push ups. The chin ups and push ups are particularly preferred by billiard players because they use your own body weight. This provides less room for personal injury which can keep a player out of that billiard tournament altogether. Detrimental injuries are to be avoided, so please consider investing in that personal fitness trainer.
It is also critical to the sport of pool that you’ve got a comfortable, fitting pair of shoes with great arch support. If you are not looking to replace your whole wardrobe you might consider, at the very least, buying a couple of Dr. Scholl’s shoe pads for your existing pair of shoes.
The game of pool is a delightful table sport enjoyed by many tens of thousands of individuals around the entire world. Pocket billiards has truly stood the tests and trials of time for many decades, and will almost certainly continue to do so. Do not ruin your chances at enjoying the game for years to come. Follow the instruction of your personal physician before starting any particularly strenuous fitness routine.

Pool and Its Variations

Pool has always been one of my favorite games. This is simply because it is so much more than a game; it is more of a social event actually. Teenagers twenty years ago would meet up for an evening out and a game of pool and fortunately this is one of the things that has not changed today because today’s teens too love going out for a game or two of pool with their gang.
But, pool can be played in a lot of ways. A bit of bending and twisting the rules can give you different variations. In fact some people know it as Billiards or some people know it even as Snooker. But there is a marked difference between the games.
Billiards
Billiards may look much the same as pool to an observer but it is not. For starters, smaller balls are used when people play this game, what is more only three balls are used. The colors of these balls are white, red and yellow. Plus, you can use both the light colored balls – yellow and white – as strikers. If you look at it in a particular way, you will see that Billiards is basically pool but without any pockets, even the cloth on the table is faster.
Basically, the objective of the game is to hit the ball, then move three rails and then go on to hit the other ball with the cue ball. So that’s basically how this game is played. Mighty different from pool, isn’t it?
Snooker
Snooker is the opposite of billiards. People generally play this game on a much larger table than a pool table. Plus this table is specially built to have cushions which are way narrower than the ones on a pool table and the pocket openings are eased or rather curved into.
In Snooker, what you need to basically do is somehow score more points than your opponent. And in order to do this, you need to sink the balls which have a greater point value as fast as you can. Snooker is a longer game since it is played with 22 balls instead of the 15 that we are generally accustomed to. 15 balls are red, 6 balls are of different colors and of course, there is the striker or the cue ball.
The points for each ball vary according to the color, red balls give you one point only, yellow balls give you two, green balls give you three, a brown ball gives you four points, a blue ball gives you five points, a pink ball is worth six and a black ball is worth a whopping seven points. So it follows that you need to sink the black ball as fast as you can.
